Winged Tiara

This head piece was commissioned by Robert Hiller, for his collection of contemporary tiaras, now part of the permanent collection at The Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City.

When I received this commission my mind naturally went straight to wings. I have marvelled at their aerodynamic design and extraordinary beauty since early childhood. For in my dreams, long before I learned of the ancient gods Hermes and Mercury or our modern-day super heroes, I had the power flight. I could defy gravity, rise up into the sky and soar above the world below, only then to wake and remember my human limitations. But what if I were to make an object that could grant such power…
